3Not built as well as I had hoped  Nov 04, 2009 By K. Flanagan
Upon receiving the lamp, I was impressed with the box weight. It felt like something substantial was inside. I got it all put together, and that feeling slowly diminished. The 'handle' that goes into the top of the lamp (used for moving it for adjustment) could not be tightened enough to not wiggle. I figured I would just deal with this. I then went to tighten the knob on the base and the knob twisted right off. This was with my hand, and not because of excessive force.

I guess I needed to spend more, but at this price I thought I would get a better made lamp of a better grade steel. Maybe I just got a bad unit, but I'm returning and not replacing with the same lamp.

I'm giving it 3 stars because the amazon return process was so easy and pain free.

1Is less quality best?  Oct 04, 2011 By Rosie
Bought the lamp for a second time because I love the design, but was "surprised" to find that the Chinese manufacturers have once again managed to decrease the quality of the product. Dimensions were imprecise so on bending the parts the metal grinds in unexpected area; my lamp's metal arm came already bent (though beautifully packaged) and I had to figure out what was happening. And, it is about an inch shorter than the previous model. Big disappointment, perhaps a better deal to buy the expensive version from the beginning. Also, the coils rusted very quickly.

5Stylish, substantial lamp  Aug 14, 2008 By Tool Guy
Very easy to set up and appears sturdy. With low watt bulb, fabric shade produces warm, even light. Although it is a bit larger than I imagined, I am very happy with this lamp.

5Excellent. Approximates Artemide's Tolomeo.  Nov 30, 2009 By Phnom
One reviewer found the "quality" disappointing but I find it well made. Screws tighten well (but you need a very slim screw-driver, or perhaps a bread-knife blade for one of them). Fine appearance and weight, and nicely cast lighting. This lamp approximates, without imitating, the vastly more expensive cloth-shaded Artemide Tolomeo, and it does a good job of it. The "pleated" shade is not at all grandma-ish and in fact looks clean.

4Nice Lamp  Apr 11, 2012 By Jonathan F. Otis "Jon"
I bought this lamp for my room. I really like it and it looks great. The base is very heavy for a lamp. I guess this is needed though since the lamp head/shade is bigger than I expected (Probably about 5-6" tall maybe 6-8" diameter. The lamp itself is pretty tall too. Maybe 2 or 3 feet. As others have stated, the hinges do not work very well. The position in the picture is pretty much all the lamp can do. The hinge on the body can flex pretty well, but the one at the neck of the lamp is pretty much useless. The hinges do seem kind of fragile, so I wouldn't play with them too much. I have it on a small bookshelf next to my computer desk so I don't need to adjust it. The cord is probably 2 feet long. Nothing out of the ordinary. I would say that if you really like the style of this lamp and don't mind paying a little more, then buy it. I'm giving this 4 stars because I really like the design. The quality is slightly underwhelming so it's not going to get 5 stars. If I could I'd probably go between 3 and 4 stars.
