The best things going for the KeepBox are its size, price, and stackability. We would mention water-resistent, except for the two-piece, overlapping lid that closes in the middle like a cardboard box. The seal is not very tight, allowing for seepage as well as insects to enter, not that great for paper items or clothes. While the box is lockable, it requires either two padlocks with extra-long shanks or one adjustable cable lock to string through the holes on each side of the lid, adding to the cost if you want secure storage. We went for padlocks, which we thought would be tighter. Luckily you can buy these in keyed-alike sets, but we could find only 2 1/2-inch long shanks, and the size needed is slightly smaller, approximately 2 1/4. You could remedy this with adjustable shank padlocks, but they are hard to get keyed-alike. Another option is to place a nut on each shank to take up the slack. Even with these additions, we wouldn't advise storing anything of significant value, as the box affords only minimal security. The lid is thin in order to be flexible, so one can close it this novel way. We dont understand why Akro designed it so, unless for nostalgia's sake; you know, the old "ham pan" phenomenon, for folks used to cardboard boxes who would like something a step up. It seems a one-piece, conventional "egg carton" lid with only one piano hinge and one lock hole in the middle would be more feasable. Assuming you would position the container to take up the least linear space, you must place it so you can turn it around or lift it out for access.

Akro-Mils 66486 CLDBL 12-Gallon Plastic Storage KeepBox with Attached Lid work great as they are heavy duty. I will use these bins for my tshirt company because of there heavy duty metal hings on the lids. The hard plastic is perfect for stacking and carrying all your goods.

I picked up about a dozen of these at Lowe's several years ago in the $5 - $7 price range. I use a few of them in the garage for electrical and plumbing supplies and they hold up to the abuse. My garage is climate controlled but I use the boxes occasionally in subzero weather and they seem to be just as pliable and rugged regardless of temperature. I'm not sure I would recommend them at $20+/ each but at I would buy a dozen more right now if I could find them in the $10 - $12 range.
