Rather nice results Sep 20, 2010
By Lisa N Texas I used the Armour Etch Cream as it was intended to be used which is to etch glass (imagine that?!) and the results were rather nice. I etched a 12" x 12" mirror, and left it on for 1 minute as instructed. The result was a nicely etched mirror however there were two little spots which didn't etch. I must of not applied it evenly in these areas. I added just a bit more etching cream in those areas and well... it etched it but of course the bit I added overlapped the areas which were etched and etched those areas some more resulting a bit of a splotchy look . Ugh!
NOT Armour Etch Creams fault as this was my first try. I'm seriously thinking about using a bunch of this stuff to etch my shower door but going to practice a bit.
So I wiped off what I used on my mirror and salvaged as much of the cream as I could, replacing it back in the jar. Does anyone know if this was an ok move? I don't recall that I saw anything on the jar which said not to do this.
btw.. I'm rather annoyed at the reviews were people are rating this product one or two stars because it didn't take some sort of coating off on their glasses. This product isn't advertised to do such a thing and should not be dinged for not performing a function it was NOT designed to perform or does it advertise that it does.
Update on 11/9/2010: I was just reminded that I need to update my review. I went to Armour Etch's website to find out if this product could be used to etch large surfaces (my shower door for example) and it's website they say that they do no recommend using this product for large surfaces.
Oh by the way they also address the idea of using Armour Etch Cream to remove scratches in plastic eye wear and they recommend using "Liquid Lense" which fills in the scratches of the protective coating on your lenses.
They also say the following
"When you apply Armour Etch to the glasses, yes it removes the protective layer, which gives you the ILLUSION of removing the scratches from your glasses."
You can find this information on Armour Etch's website by clicking on "Customer Service" and then "Knowledge Base".
In other words Armour Etch does not condone or advertise that Armour Etch Cream is meant to remove scratches from your plastic lenses.

Inexpensive and comes out nice Dec 23, 2009
By A. Adamson I picked some of this up at the local hobby store - I used it to etch a glass jar that was going to be part of a gift. It worked exactly as expected with no real issues, and the end product came out looking nice. It isn't a really deep, blatant etching, but it is certainly noticeable. If you have the glass over a dark background I imagine it will look the best. The etching seems durable, and although I'm not planning on testing whether it is dish-washer safe or not, it seems to me that it would be.
One note - I left this on for anywhere from 10 minutes to 40 minutes, and all of them looked about identical. The directions on my bottle only specified 60 seconds, but that seemed short to me according to what I had been reading online. At any rate, 10 minutes is certainly sufficient, and I wouldn't be surprised if it could work even faster - I just didn't want to push my luck - better safe than sorry.

Works as advertised, not as imagined. Nov 27, 2009
By B. Etherington Chemical etching is easy and doesn't make very much of a mess at all. Lots of fun as long as you're not expecting the result to look like etching with a dremel. This cream doesn't leave a highly discernible shape as much as a frosted patch that you have to look at at an angle to see well.

I'll Dance Again! (Used for eyeglasses) Feb 23, 2012
By SB I carefully read the community advice. My plastic lenses with the anti-glare coating were hazed with spider veins from working in a greenhouse full of airborne soil particles. I cleaned and dried them thoroughly and lightly dabbed a thick coating of the Armour Etch on the inside of each lens. It was obvious that was where the coating and scratches were. I was going to go for 40 minutes but did 35. I then took them to the sink, ran the water hot and put the glasses underneath to let just the stream of water do the cleanup. I am astounded. Works great. Didn't need to do anything more other than dry them with the only thing that will touch them from now on - a lens cloth. They positively sparkle. Clear as crystal.

Sight Saver ! Jan 21, 2012

My glasses were scratched so bad that sometimes I could see better without them. I read all of the positive reviews for Armour Etch, so I decided I had nothing to lose. The Armour Etch arrived yesterday when the temperature was in the single digits all day, so when I got home it was frozen solid after being in the mailbox all day. I unwrapped it from the packaging and let it sit on the table all night. This morning I opened the bottle and it looked good so I got a cotton swab and smeared one lens. I waited eight minutes and rinsed the lens off in warm water, then dried it with a soft towel. The lens was clear, so I did the other lens the same way... same results. My glasses are better than new now!
