I really like this unit. I have had it for 4 years and not had to replace the blade. I use it for photos, paper, card stock and never had a problem with it. My son does origami all the time and it works great for him too.

This is a great trimmer and the cutters/mats last quite a long time. I used my trimmer for shipping labels, photos etc for more than 2 years with one cutter before I replaced it. Carl makes a great product and I would buy another without hesitation.

My initial blade lasted five years, mostly cutting photo negatives but sometimes photo paper as well. When I got ragged edges, it was unclear whether the problem was primarily the blade or the cutting mat, so I replaced them both. The cost was minimal and it's like having a new cutter.
