Better than a framing square and the trusty ole Swanson Jan 19, 2000 General contracting leads you into some real interesting situations - especially when you attempt to build round pegs into square holes. This handy gadget can do it for you without turning what little hair you have left further grey. Wish I had purchased it two years ago, rather than two months.I laid out a complicated staircase in one attempt within 1/8" of my target. I can live with that anyday. Can't wait to build another house and cut the roof. Should be able to leave my "blue book" in the truck.

Rafter book no longer needed Mar 28, 2000
By Michael C. Kroesche Was doing a house and the roof span was more than what the blue book had available. Went out and bought "The Ultimate Calculator" and have not used the blue book since. The instruction book is very user friendly. I use the calculator every chance I get which sometimes is not enough. I am even thinking about getting a second one for my lead carpenter. In my opinion, even at twice the price, it is still very much worth the money.

Stairs can be a scary thing Jun 07, 2000

I have been building my own house now for the past 2 years and finally getting to the end. When I did my first set of stairs, I was petrified I would mess it up - is the angle right, will they feel right going up and then down, just how many risers do I need, anyway. There are plenty of rules about building stairs - the sum of 2 risers and 1 tread = 25 inches, and so on. With this hummer, put all that fancy stuff aside. Make the rise and run measurements, push the answer button, and start cutting. This is probably not a must-have item for most do-it-yourselfers, but if you have a big project and are doing your own design work, I would strongly recommend one. And, it fits in your pocket.

Saves you time (and some brain cramps, too!). Jan 27, 2002 I have a looooong way to go to even be close to tapping the full capabilities of this little unit. I've only had it for a month or so, and I've used it for lots of things. The feet-inch-fractions feature is just the best. The magnetic case works pretty well. If you find yourself using your pencil for a lot of figuring when you're on the job, you might consider giving this a try.

This is a great tool, made even greater with the Pro model Feb 12, 2004

You can download from Calculated Industries a free full blown version of their PC Software version of Construction Master Pro Calculator. It works for 30 days without any restrictions. That is what got me hooked. Once I saw what you could do for calculating board feet, and lots of other calculations, I knew I had to have more than the trial version. With C Industries Construction Master Pro, you are currently receiving the software version (a 30 some dollar value in itself) for free with the purchase of the calculator. It is included in the box. Considering the Pro is only going for a few more dollars than the IV version, it makes it a no brainer to buy that model instead. Since I bought the pro, I am going to go over and write a review on that one instead. It has all of the features of the IV and then some. It comes in a great looking case, and has a front cover that mounts on the back when not in use. It looks great, and is even greater for its usefulness. Hope this helps.
