Good For a Few Days Feb 15, 2009
By L. Smith Pros: Nice looking pens, a lot of refills Cons: Only some pens worked, others broker after use
I got this set, like many other people, for the fountain pen. When I first opened it, I tried some of the other pens out. The roller ball pen didn't work. I loaded the fountain pen with the first ink cartridge. It worked great. I used it for writing part of a short story, and doing little jobs here and there, like a few worksheet assignments for class. The first ink cartridge ran out, and I was going to switch from blue to black ink. I rinsed the nib like it said, let it dry for two days (a day longer than the minimum), and installed the black cartridge. It wrote very scratchy when I was making a list, and then wouldn't write at all when I went to use it again. Meanwhile, I had gotten a set for my grandma. She installed a black cartridge first, and it worked for a bit but then quit.
I don't know if there was an issue with the black ink or what, but I have rinsed both nibs, let dry for multiple days, and installed a blue cartridge, and neither work. We wrote the comany and it just told us how to install a cartridge (it looks like an automated leaflet). When the pen is working, it is great pen. It writes smooth and dries quickly. However, it only worked for a week for me and four days for my grandmother.

Looks good, but it's cheap May 29, 2010

Title about says it all. Every pen in this set looks great when you first look at them but the ink is the cheapest I've ever seen. Not to mention if you actually do fall in love with these pens, the refills are near impossible to get a hold of. The pens skip so much they are simply worthless..

Very good for the price Mar 21, 2009

Unlike Mr. Smith, I didn't hate the set. I didn't buy it for the fountain pen. I must admit that's the worst quality fountain pen I have (I have about ten). But for the first two years, the rest of the items on the set worked wonderfully. I particularly liked the micro pen. Also the two color pen was quite useful (I am a college professor).
Now, last fall I moved from Atlanta to College Station, and the set spent six months in the bottom of a box in a storage room (under the Texan heat and humidity) and the weather took its toll on the set. Although it is not visible unless you look close, the golden veneer is showing small spots of oxidation. Besides, the roller pen dried out. The rest of the pen are working fine. I haven't tried the fountain pen yet.
So, if you consider the cheap price of this set, I think it is a good bang for your buck, specially if you plan to use these pens only.

A wonderful bargain Jan 09, 2012
By Patricia My little grandaughter asked me to purchase this for her to give Mommy for Christmas. I had it shipped directly to her and was there on Christmas when my daughter opened the gift. What an amazingly beautiful set of pens and who could believe the reasonable cost?? The gift looked like much more than it cost and my daughter was thrilled as she wants to learn calligraphy.

Better than I expected Aug 29, 2011
By Manneighquinne I got my first set of these pens as a gift, and thought that they looked pretty cool. I break everything I write with, either because I chewed on it, stepped on it, threw it against a wall, had the ink explode on me, looked at it funny and made the writing tip fall out etc. I'm cursed. These pens out lasted ALL my other pens, AND they had refills, so when the ink ran out, I could refill it, instead of hunting for a new pen. I know a lot of people complain about the fountain pen, but, a fun trick that works, when you need to replace the cartridge, take the pen nib out and put it in a glass of water for an hour, then dry it and replace, and pop in the cartridge. All the problems I ever had with fountain pens were solved that way (it's because the ink builds up and then clogs it, but it's water soluble so it can be dissolved away!!!) and this pen was no exception. The only thing I'd say is that they.... well, just don't run them over with car. Then they break.
