4A word of caution  Aug 25, 2007 By T. Andrus
This lockbox has 10 buttons to set the combination, but it's an unordered combination - that is, 1234 is the same as 4213. If you use all 10 buttons, there is a 100% chance that someone pressing all 10 buttons will open it. That said, someone without the combination does indeed have over 1000 possible combinations to try (1023), which is better than a four-digit combination lock.

Also, this is the same box that the local fire departments use for getting a key into businesses and homes where the owner has requested it, though the fire box uses a tubular key. A very, very solid box with a great reputation.

4Keysafe Review  Jun 19, 2009 By Kent Forrest "Mac User" "Macuser"
OK this is NOT a high end security key box. You are required to select between 5 and 7 numbers for your combination and the numbers can be entered in any sequence. I suspect there are only a few hundred possible combinations IF you knew that fact. However, most people who might be trying to bypass your security would rather break a window than go to all that trouble.

The documentation that comes with the device is NOT clear. After spending 20 minutes trying to understand the instructions I did a search and found an "English" page with 1,2,3 steps on-line at the GE site. It took only 3 minutes after that to get things working properly. (Note: the secret is that you have to rotate the screws 180 degrees on the back on the safe door for EACH number you are selecting as your number combination.)

I would not like to try opening this box with any power tool in my collection - it appears to be very durable.

It is very pricey for what it is but it does seem to work.

My daughter has used one for years with no problems that being the reason I bought it.

5Substantial and attractive  Mar 08, 2008 By FEDEXXIT
We used to hide a key in various places around the yard, so we're much more sophisticated with the GE Security Keysafe. Yes, there may be a few ways to put in the code, but it offers wonderful peace of mind that we will never be locked out. It looks good and is fairly heavy, and in our minds, well worth the investment.

5Owned 3 for over 10 years...Has yet to fail  Mar 22, 2011 By A. Duffy "Vegas"
I have owned several of these and have them in place at a home in California and Las Vegas. The one in CA i have screwed to a piece of trim on the outside of my garage. I generally have accessed it approx. 3 time a year...usually when my girlfriend beats me home. Vegas I have attached to the top of my front door as this is a vacation home and many friends stay there when I am not present.

Pros:
Strong- Forgot the combo and it literally took me 4 hours of beating it with a hammer to eventually get a crowbar in the dang thing before i finally got it open. Also, at my Vegas house, someone tried several times to open it by hitting it with a rock, they had no luck.

Changeable code- You can change the code endlessly. Good for when you break up w/ the girl or have different guests (or maids) come by.

Cons:
You have to get 4 substantial screws to secure it to a house. (The holes are inside behind the combination plate after you open it.)

Overall, I swear by them.

5Solid and secure  Feb 14, 2011 By Mtkaat
There are two versions of this, a two key and a five key version. The two key version does not stick out as much and would be a better choice if only two keys need to be stored. I've used the two key version in two different applications over the past four years. In both cases, I've secured this under a covered porch. It has never failed. The box is more solid and harder to break into than any standard door or window -- anyone wanting to break into a house would definitely have more trouble getting into these boxes than into a locked window. They will also have more trouble getting into the box than finding the key you've hidden under that rock.

You do have to reenter the combination to close the box after using it. THIS IS GOOD! -- if you change the combination this is a check that you have it correctly set before you lock the box. We put one on a not-for-profit building that has several people accessing it. We don't have to issue keys to everyone and we can change the combination when we want to give temporary access to someone doing work on the building then change it back easily.

Five stars, not because it's perfect, but because it does the job well is reasonably priced and gives more security than typical schemes for keeping an extra key handy.
