Simple and durable always-on music player Mar 30, 2009
By Ernie Beaudin While it called an on-hold music player, it's just a fancy MP3 player which starts playing soon as it's turned on, or power is restored. Plays all songs on the inserted USB flash drive (comes with 128mb which is adequate for the purpose).
It is larger than I expected - in the photo it seems 4-5" long, it is actually 7 inches! But it is a rugged aluminum case with plastic ends so it's good for a commercial installation. It looks fairly industrial, meaning it has the look of quality. And, so far it is a quality product. Power LED, volume nob which is also the on/off switch. Internal speaker for testing and monitoring with toggle switch. You can change the output impedance from 8 ohms to 600 ohms for your purpose. Audio out and 9V power in (power supply included with US, Europe and Asian interchangeable plug ends).
It also has a trigger input - which allows you to activate playback upon say someone pushing a switch, entering a sensor area, etc. We love it because we have a supply of USB flash drives with different seasons of music - we just change as needed. No complex programming or setup. Any staff can do it, from the new guy to the old hack.
You might ask why pay $200 (ish) for a fancy mp3 player when I can just use my old $20 player. Simple: this allows you to change music fast, has a simple output and volume control setup for its designed purpose. But most importantly, it plays whenever it's on, I don't know of any standard consumer mp3 player that can do that. This is a simple and easy to use device, designed to play music always and constantly.
Good for on-hold (the name of the item) or even in-house music, though there is another series designed for that purpose.
I am sure this will last us a long long time.

Excellent product Aug 02, 2009
By CHUS01 Fan This machine is solidly built and bigger than it seems in the pictures. The case is aluminum with thick plastic caps on the ends. The controls are nice, smooth turning and the internal speaker sounds good.
I use it for hold music for a small office. It sounds great. The included memory key has a wide variety of non-offensive, professional-sounding music including smooth jazz, rock, country, and classical-sounding pieces. None of it will make your clients complain, "What was that weird music?" The voice-overs ("Thank you for holding, we'll be right with you" etc.) are pleasant and I actually like listening to our hold music when I call the office to check in.
The machine puts out a signal through a male RCA jack. I wish rather than the foreign power adaptors that they included an RCA to mono (headphone) adaptor. I had to run to RadioShack to get this part ($3) but once I got it everything worked fine. The machine has the potential to run on 8 ohms or some other number. I played with both- the 8 ohm sounded better and neither setting fried the system.
In summary, I think they did a really nice job with this device including quality construction designed to last, and providing hours of music and voice-overs that I am proud to offer to our clients. Since starting the machine, it's never failed, despite multiple power outages (I have it on a surge-protected battery backup), and clients seem happier when I pick up the phone after they've been put on hold.

What people do not talk about Sep 03, 2011
By Patricj The product is great for our buisness, really easy to set up and has great software that comes with it It is so easy to make messages and mix in background music and sounds great. Now to explain the title above. If you are on a wired phone the music and announcements sound Great but if you are on a cell phone like from verizon, it cuts out the music and sounds choppy because Their compression software cuts out background music or tries to. Our business a lot of customers call From cell phones and I did not know this, not a lot you can do it is what is is. The product is great and easy to use And customer service of their company is also great to work with. I would buy this for any company.

OK if used as is Mar 14, 2011
By Bryan Haleck One of the reasons I bought this product was the sales pitch about the easy to use software that you can use to customize the on-hold messages. Unfortunately, this software hasn't been updated since Windows XP, so the (weak anyway) help menu doesn't work. OHP's customer service people confirm that they have no plans to fix this. My complaint about the non-existant tutorial was answered with, "What do you want from free software?" and "Why don't you just use our message service?"
I bought the product to get away from fee-based message services.
If you use the unit as is with the prerecorded music and message it will probably be perfect for you. If you want to use your own music or messages you can, you just have to figure it out on your own.

Great Tool for marketing Dec 09, 2011
By KT I bought this to replace the tape player I use now for on hold messages. It was costing me $300 every time I wanted to change the music or the message! This unit is very simple to operate. It even comes with EASY to use software to create your own message. I could choose just music or record my voice message about a new product or event and the software overlayed the voice on the music and lowered the music volume at just the right spot to allow the caller to clearly hear my voice message. Then when the voice finished the message the music volume increased so the caller could then enjoy the music. It even comes with a variety of music tracks to choose from. I chose holiday music to play during December and can then change it next month to something else. PRETTY AWESOME! I am definitely happy with this unit and highly recommend it.
