Love the freedom and long talking time Mar 04, 2010 I've been using this model phone for 2 1/2 years. I work at home and spend sometimes 6 hours a day on calls. The headset will give me about 6 hours of talk time between charges. The range is excellent. I can walk anywhere in my house and even out to the front or back yard and still be in range. The sound quality is good, but could use a little improvement. I've never gotten an echo or static, though if I do go outside, the faintest hint of a breeze causes noise to the listener, so I guess I can't work from my patio.
The headset construction quality is the downfall. After about a year I needed to replace the headset battery. It had expanded as others have noted. The local Batteries Plus store didn't carry it, but I found a replacement easily and cheaply online. The headset stopped working after 1 1/2 years of use. It's correct that you cannot buy a replacement headset, so I did buy another complete phone. I figure at $120 for 1 1/2 years of use, it was a pretty good deal. I'm now 6 months in to my second phone.
I searched all over for a wireless headset and couldn't find any others that have a truly wireless headset AND wireless handset. Some have a cordless handset, with a wired headset. Others are just wireless headsets, but to place calls you have to go back to your computer or your desk phone and you need a handset lifter. There is one other brand now that has a cordless handset and headset and some very nice VoiP and Outlook integration features, but it is twice the cost. Since I find the cordless freedom essential to my virtual office, I'll probably buy the other brand next time - my work will pay for it.
Overall this is an effective product for the money for your cordless freedom, as long as you understand that its life is limited and it's lacking in advanced features.
Heartbroken over Headset Breaking!! Feb 13, 2010 I bought this unit about 4 years ago because of the headset being wireless. Really, that was the one feature that was most needed, and this was the one unit in this price range that had a wireless headset. I didn't think the over-the-ear clip would be comfortable, and it wasn't. Too heavy, and as a previous reviewer said, that makes sense with an entire mouthpiece/microphone built in. I did find the over-the-head band comfortable, although taking it off would get it tangled up in my hair sometimes. Oh, well. I used the phone happily for years, and the headset did sort of "flimsy-out", losing the little mike-cover bud thing after a while. The band ultimately broke beyond supergluing. I thought, "well, buy a replacement!" right? I have looked everywhere, and I cannot locate one. This phone says RCA, Visys, but it is pictured under Plantronics. The gal at plantronics said it was impossible; that all Plantronic stuff was labeled with their name. I need to have a good quality phone with headset, as I work at home and often do conference calls, but my coworkers do not use VoIP. I tried a cheapo-generic headset, and I can't stand the fuzzy sound. I am simply going to replace the whole unit, which sounds like an unAmerican decision in this economy, but I am spoiled; I need a good unit. My ear-bud unit for my cell phone isn't as clear as this, and it cost 3X as much!

Nice for the price but unreliable Feb 03, 2010 Got our second unit for my wife at Christmas. First one died after about 1.5 years. This one has lasted only 6 weeks. Sending in for warranty work tomorrow. I have a high end GN Netcom (now GN Jabra I believe) for work that cost $300+ at the time. Hard to justify that for home use so this RCA is pretty compelling for a buck ten. But I guess you get what you pay for. Price is right and other than quality they work great. Just cross your fingers you get a unit that might last a year or two.

Battery could be unsafe Oct 26, 2009 I was satisfied with the phone until I noticed that the battery in the headset had swollen to such degree that the pressure broke the encasing plastic where the speaker is (The battery is right behind that speaker). I thought it could explode any moment so I removed it and replace it. Could you imagine if it had exploded in my ear while wearing the headset?
The phone was still under warranty and I contacted RCA customer service. They refused to replace the battery or the headset with the pretext that batteries are not covered by the warranty. Of course this was not a simple case of a dead battery it was a battery defect and possible safety issue. Also beware that if the headset or the base break, they cannot be replaced as standalone pieces as they are both paired to each other in order to work. You will have to replace the whole phone.
After all this I am completely disatisfied with the phone and especially RCA customer care. Not buying this brand again.

Very poor quality Oct 11, 2009 The short answer: this phone is junk. The sound quality is poor, although usable. The firmware is very buggy and mine had a lot of oddities when getting caller ID and ringing properly when the phone was not resting in the base. The headset is junk. I am surprised that this is still on the market as you will frequently find the headset broken in the retail stores. This is very poor quality for the price.
