I bought this product to lock my refrigerator door from my Dad who has dementia and unnecessarily raids the refrigerator in the middle of the night. Works great for my purpose.

Does just what it says May 14, 2010
By Splatt My wife and I decided to buy this because our autistic son has a habit of raiding the refrigerator. We didn't want to permanently alter or damage the refrigerator (i.e. no drilling), so we decided to give this product a try. We are more than pleased with it.
The directions that came with the lock were clear and direct, and installation was quick and simple. We waited the recommended 48 hours for a full adhesive bond, and when we snapped the padlock on the refrigerator raiding stopped cold (pun intended).
Everything is very durably constructed: the plates appear to be enameled metal, and the cables are rubber/plastic coated metal. The padlock that came with it was a keyed brass Master lock, not a cheap steel or aluminum one. The finish on the plates and cables is white, not off-white, and matches our refrigerator exactly. The adhesive has worked extremely well so far, and we didn't need any super glue to enhance the bond.
Please be aware that the green scrub pad that comes with the kit does not just clean the adhesive contact area -- it also removes the gloss from the paint. I assume this is to facilitate better adhesion -- either that, or I scrubbed too hard. Not a big deal, but it does mean that when the time comes to remove the lock we're going to have two dull spots on the fridge.

This Fridge Door Lock Works Aug 23, 2009

I work in a school servicing several teenaged students with autism. The refrigerator is a frequent target. My previous attempts to secure the door were shattered, literally. This one has held quite nicely.

We bought these locks because my girlfriend's son is autistic and raids the refrigerator at night. Has worked fantasitic. The adhesive is extremely strong. The kit comes with a small scrubber pad and an alcohol pad to prepare the surface. Very easy to install. I received the items in a very timely manner.

Switched the padlock and all is fine. Jan 11, 2010

This was very easy to attach and has served it's purpose of keeping the kids out.
I did not care for the lock it arrived with. (It is not the one pictured but a silver lock consisting of three rows of numbers.) To begin with it was very hard to change the combination (you rotate it a quarter turn, reset, and it's supposed to work). After trying to change it, a random number was somehow set which I was able to trouble shoot by systematically going through numbers while watching TV one night.
All was fine until my teen realized the code could systematically be "busted" and presented me with the lock one evening! So, we've moved to using a key lock and now all is running smoothly.
So, if you have determined kids, I recommend this product but take the time to purchase a simple key lock to use instead.
