 Not Bad For Price Aug 26, 2010
Got the safe and was fairly easy to install. Isn't fort knox but makes the house safe with kids in it now. Would have liked to have space for long guns and hand guns, but if you still have the cases for the hand guns they will fit. Another item that would have been nice is area for ammo, but again if you work it right the small top shelf suffices. I needed something to lock up my long guns in an area where I didn't have much room. This does the job. The quality is good enough, but for the price, I expected a little bit more heft. All the same, I'm happy to have been able to buy it at the Amazon price, because there's no way I'd pay list price (nearly twice as much) for it. I can get an actual safe for that much.

The Sentry Gun Safe is OK - - better than adequate. It locks, stores guns and not much more. There is a shelf inside that you can store some ammo on, and ammo can be stored on the floor. Long Guns (rifles) don't "lock" down inside the safe, and if your guns have scopes on them, storage can be a bit tight. Over-all 3.5 out of 5 stars for me. PRICE IS EXCELLENT, however, this is a safe mainly for keeping family members out (kids primarily), not for robbery security.
Sentry 5-gun safe just barely ok Jul 10, 2010
Took advantage of a half-off sale to buy this to put next to our Stack-On 8-gun safe, also purchased from Amazon. The Stack-On safe has served us well although I recognize it's an entry level safe, great for the price but not a competitor for the much more expensive safes. This Sentry safe is several rungs below the Stack-On. For one thing, it's much less sturdy. It only has 2 holes at the bottom for bolting it to the floor. We could have drilled more holes but thought we'd see how steady it was without, about as steady as a soda can. Our Stack-On can't be budged. This 5-gun Sentry safe can be jostled quite a bit. By the way, don't even bother with the included cheesy hardware. We used our own much heavier duty hardware to bolt both this and the Stack-On to the floor. The interior is also not nearly as well constructed as the Stack-On. The Stack-On's rack is secured with hardware. The Sentry's rack is secured with velcro. We had to buy some after-market rack add-ons to keep the long guns from sliding out of the much too wide rack. To be fair, we had to do the same thing with the Stack-On. The interior is only partially carpeted so we make sure to keep our long guns in heavy duty socks. With the half-off offer and some reward points to apply I couldn't beat the price of this so am happy to have it but it's so not worth the full purchase price. Amazon however gets my full 5-star vote for pricing offers, ease of ordering, customer service, and lightning fast shipping.

I received my safe and was really happy at first. Then i really started checking it out and noticed many things I don't like.
1. Shipping.... There is some damage to the safe caused by poor packing. The top right rear corner has a small hole at the weld and the front has 2 paint chips.
2. Construction... The metal is a little thinner than I'd like. I'm confident you'll stop a thief who's in a hurry and a nosy kid. If the thief's a little more
patient, your guns will be gone.
3. Design... Here's where I'm most disappointed. The safe is door-heavy and will fall forward when you're trying to bolt it down. I had to prop it straight with the shelf while I was trying to secure it. There are 2 anchor points in the floor of the safe and 2 in the back, but only 2 bolts to anchor it with. Like I said, the metal is thin and you could rip this thing out with just the 2 bolts they give you. I made 4 more anchor points in the floor for a total of 6 and used washers to give a larger area for and pressure to distribute. It only took a few seconds to drill through the metal (kinda scary). The shelf is tiny. It's about 1/2 the depth of the safe and mounted midway into the safe so there's a big gap in the front and rear of it. Things can fall forward or back so don't put anything on it that you don't mind falling on your rifles. I am going to build a full shelf for it. The barrel rest is a piece of plastic that slips over a couple notches on the back of the safe. Only one of the notches is tall enough for a scoped rifle. The other 4 are pretty short. In the product description, it says plenty of room for your hunting rifles. The key there for me is "hunting rifles". If you have an ar15, get ready to pad the bottom with foam like I had to. My AR kept falling forward because of the angle of the collapsible stock. With the buttstock fully extended, my barrel makes it about 2" above the rest. My AK fits ok but it is a sporter model so I don't know how well a standard one would sit. Regular hunting rifles will fit fine but I'm not sure about having a scope on them.
Overall... It does the job but I can't really consider it a safe. More of an upgraded cabinet. I made due with it and am happier after doing some tweaking. I am not 100% happy and will upgrade to something else in the future but for now, it's enough.
