Just what we needed Jan 20, 2009
By ncpoppie This is a major university setting and we needed a secure means for locking up A/V equipment (laptop and LCD projector) for one of our conference rooms often used well after normal closing time.
Selecting the Sentry Safe X105 met our needs. The safe is large enough to handle a projo and laptop along with accessories. It can be unlocked and left that way so that the conference personnel can restore and secure the items they've checked out without having to have the combination.
Lots of good ways to secure this safe including a nice hidden cable system. There are mounting holes in the bottom that we used to anchor it down to the bottom sturdy shelf of a counter cabinet. So the vault is not only anchored well, it is also out-of-sight inside of a storage cabinet.
Nicely made device - better than expected - and good value too.

OK for casual security, but don't store the family jewels in it Mar 25, 2010
By Concerned Citizen The safe is reasonably priced and is of a good size to fit under a bed or in a cabinet with a large shelf. The push button lock works OK, but there are quite a few plastic parts involved, which I'm concerned could break. The biggest potential issue that buyers need to be aware of is that the metal on this safe is not that thick. The picture with the locking prongs leads one to believe that this is a safe on par with the old fashioned ones made out of thick steel. That's not the case here. Even if bolted down someone could break into it fairly easily with a hammer and screwdriver. The security provided by this safe is mostly psychological (i.e. everyone knows it's a no-no to try to break into someone else's safe, even if it's not that hard to get into). Think of it like the petty cash boxes you see at places like church festivals. It's a bit more robust than that, but not enormously so. It's best used in situations where you want to make a statement to normal law abiding folks that what's inside is off limits, but you aren't expecting it to stop a determined thief.

Fair value for price paid Dec 26, 2009
By uncle-buck I bought two of these safes as gifts for my pre-teen and teenage children - so they would have a place to store their valuables. They absolutely love them! No more worries about "busybody" little sister taking or moving their stuff.
My wife and I also like the fact that we have master keys and can, if necessary, monitor what the children are keeping in their safes.
This product is not a fireproof, high security safe - nor is it intended to be. It's a good basic safe appropriate for the routine storage of personal and electronic items in a home or university residence environment.

SentrySafe X105 Jan 17, 2010
By Robert Mcclure Works very well for a home safe. Not intended as a high security safe, it nevertheless is quite satisfactory keeping random light fingers away from items of sentimental or moderate value. Also, it is very easy to operate.

Less than meets the eye: actual dimensions Jul 30, 2010
By Texan Internal dimensions are: 42.5 cm wide, 33.8 deep, 21.5 high [16.7" x 13.3" x 8.5"].
Plenty of space for a laptop, plus small items heaped upon the upper shelf, right?
Well, no. You have to get the laptop through the door opening.
The door opening dimensions are: 37.7 cm wide, 16.8 high [14.8" x 6.6"]. However, the door hinge reduces the available width to 36.8 cm [14.5"].
A typical 15" laptop cannot fit straight through the door opening; it must be inserted at an angle and then leveled inside the box. To do that, the shelf must be removed, or somehow pushed up to make space for the laptop rotation.
In summary, the box is difficult to use for routine laptop storage.
Other than that, the box appears sufficiently secure for a college dormitory room. The cable could have been a little thicker, and the clasp catching the cable on the inside could have been a bit sturdier. One can use a heavier cable and lock it on the inside with a regular padlock.
