Hot Lens Mar 12, 2007
By John McQuitty Outstanding build quality. Smooth and well damped zoom and manual focus rings. No zoom creep at all. Silent and fast focusing - no "hunting." And, finally, great pictures! A little barrel distortion at 10mm, but exceedingly sharp. Focus down to about 9 inches, and from there "to eternity." This is an excellent lens. It is becoming one of my favorites. I have always been a "fill the frame" type, and had not thought I had much use for an ultra-wide. I was wrong. Got it on the recommendation of my son who has one. I concur with his recommendation, and recommend it to anyone in the market for a "budget" ultra-wide zoom. Sharpest aperature is f8 throughout.

Great Budget wide Angle Aug 22, 2008
By STMV In the end, with the latest SLRs like D300, this lens is a Gem, With a slightly larger camera lens case for the belt, I find that you can carry this and the Nikkor 18-200 VR lens, and essentially you have an entire kit with no camera bag. Throw in a another belt case for the flash, and a remote cable for the flash, bring the tripod and you are ready for just about any type of shot. I have found the photos to be color accurate, sharp enough, and even with close up on flowers, pretty good. The key is that great wide angle shot. The ability to really get close to an building or car, or whatever opens up a whole area of composition that was lacking with my other lens. I have had no issues with the build quality, the lens cap works fine (some folks complain about that). This is the first Non Nikon lens that I have ever purchased (I have many of the nikkors), and do not regret it one bit.
