4The best calculator you can buy, but theres one flaw  Oct 13, 2011 By MechieMike
Function is incredible. Its hard to find yourself in a position where you are doing math this calculator can't handle. only problem is, its a pain to use (as a mechanical engineering student who's familiar with MATLAB). I would not recommend it for anyone below calculus obviously, and I would say that the calculator is best used when you have access to Google to find the input format for most of its functions. Which are a numerous. HUGE.
RECAP:
Pros: Great product, well-made (heavy and thick), great button layout (its different than the TI-83/84, a little confusing to learn but its really useful), functionality is UNREAL, calculator outputs in radicals and variables, oh and did I say that theres a UI THAT HAS A HOME SCREEN AND APPS!
Cons: Takes more time than you want to put into learning how to use your calculator and performs a little slow for graphing basic functions

5Great Advanced Calculator - Highly Recommended!  Jun 16, 2010 By C. F. Hill "CFH"
My science and math minded daughter used a loner TI-89 all through her senior year of High School and, after being accepted at a very good engineering collage, asked for one of her own as a graduation gift. My daughter could have asked for another model or brand, but she did research and was set on getting the TI-89. This was most useful for use in her AP Calculus and Physics classes so she checked and found that this would also be among the preferred model in her college classes.

This is a seriously complicated device with a large learning curve and is likely more calculator than most people will ever need, but for those that do need these functions this is likely the right choice. I have only used it once or twice out of desperation and was able to navigate the basic functions.

Highly Recommended!

5Most powerful and balanced calculator ever produced by Texas Instruments  May 07, 2012 By Mark A. Lytle
I own two of these, and use both heavily. I have recently also purchased an Inspire, and while the speed is much greater on these newer units than on the older TI-89, they are not anywhere near as easy to use or learn. So, for most engineers and researchers, unless you need the very high speed of the Inspire line, the TI-89 will be your best and most practical choice in the Texas Instruments line-up.

I would buy them (the '89's) while they're still available. I think TI wants to phase these out in favour of the newer Inspire family. I think a point is being missed that producing extra complexity of operation by showing multiple interlinking modes of display may be great in an educational setting for producing understanding in new math students, however, it is an impediment for routine use, and for people who already understand what they are doing and why they're doing it.

5great great great buy!  Mar 15, 2012 By shukorina
ok so i got the 89 for nearly half the price it was going for in the stores and other online sites! the product was not posted as new but looked pretty fresh with only one little dent in the back corner. the calculator wass bubble wrapped and boxed and i appreciated that, this is a trusty seller...so happy this calc is helping me through my sciences!
